Ben Chopson

Software Engineer

My first introduction to programming was Lego MindStorms, and programming slowly grew on me from there. I started out with Java, used C# professionally, and eventually settled on Python as my preferred language. I also enjoy working with web tech.

At Level 12 my primary responsibility is to solve business problems by developing and improving web applications. In addition, I aim to serve my teammates and make them more productive in whatever way possible.

Q&A

Do you deserve a geek badge? Why or why not?

Maybe--I do fit the stereotype in some ways.

What's your favorite bumper sticker?

Spock "quote": "I find your driving highly illogical."

What would you do if you didn't have to work?

I would find a way to be productive writing code. Or maybe space exploration. Or both.

What do you miss most about being a child?

I miss the sense of wonder and seeing the world through fresh eyes.

What do you like most about your job? What do you like least?

I enjoy working with a team that is passionate about what they do, driven by quality and integrity. I regret that working remotely means I sometimes miss out on face-to-face interactions.

What's one of your favorite websites?

GitHub.com--so many interesting projects.

What's your favorite quote?

There are many, but Isaiah 1:18 stands out:

Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

What's your goal in life?

To serve the purpose of God in my generation, and help those around me do the same.
