Laura Aalderink

Administrative Assistant

I grew up all over as the daughter of the Air Force, so I have learned to be adaptable. I lived on both coasts and in the middle of our country, as well as spent two years on the island of Crete, Greece. I have spent recent years developing and implementing individualized curricula for my children and I enjoy solving problems. I usually work in the background to support others and look forward to trying new things. I have worked in administrative positions in the past for a variety of employers and applied those same support skills to volunteer positions as well. My degree is in Elementary Education and I have used that extensively in my own home and I apply its principles of organization to daily and work life.

I live in Jeffersonville with my five children and we enjoy hiking and camping all over the area as well as playing board games. At my heart I am a Texan; all my family lives in Texas. I enjoy watching my children grow, laughing at their antics, serving the church, reading good books, drinking tea, knitting, crocheting, and needle tatting (that’s another fiber art, not body art).

Q&A

Do you deserve a geek badge? Why or why not?

My children say I do not deserve a “geek badge” but maybe I should have a “nerd badge” because of how much I enjoy learning and correcting their grammar.

What’s your favorite bumper sticker?

G>⋀∨ “God is greater than my highs and lows.”

What would you do if you didn’t have to work?

I would spend my days playing board or card games with family and drinking tea while knitting or crocheting.

What do you miss most about being a child?

I miss being able to move easily, have endless energy, and be really flexible.

What do you like most about your job? What do you like least?

I like being able to work from home and still hear my children interact with each other. I least like the amount of time I will spend looking at a screen as someone who still prefers paper books and journals.

What’s one of your favorite websites?

My internet home page is mamasrefill.com because starting my day with short, deep Bible study grounds me in my purpose.

What’s your favorite quote?

2 Corinthians 7:14 “For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory.”

What’s your goal in life?

I have two main ones. The first is to glorify God. The second is to work myself out of a job in my home by teaching my children the skills they need to run the household.
